Sandpiper: Gene Database Searching
Sandpiper was built to help you quickly untangle the gene name and symbol databases. Sandpiper is a search tool for the Human Gene Database. Searches quickly provide the approved gene name, symbol, family, category, location, and an extensive list of know gene aliases. The app also includes the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Entrez database text summary and the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) gene summary (2018). The Ensembl ID and the HUGO Gene Nomenclature Committee ID (HGNC ID) are also included along with the approved gene symbol (as of 2018). Searching can be done based on the defined Symbol, the reported aliases, or a full text search of the entire database.
Sandpiper keeps track of the genes that you have searched and found before and includes personalized notes to help you organize your project and perform targeted searches based on your own keywords. You can also email your notes, which act as a convenient method to archive your efforts and data.
The Human Gene Database is built into Sandpiper – searching can be done without the need for internet access. This app is intended for educational use only.
